Where do I even begin with the the FENNO FASHION Roaming Accessories Boutique?
Let's start with the idea of going mobile & the process of acquiring this former crusty plumbing truck. It was brutal picking it up from Tennessee, but 100% worth it after I had it up and running 7 months later.
While it didn't look like much in the beginning, my husband and I saw the potential.
When looking at trucks online, which felt like an eternity when sitting on the couch every night scrolling websites like Craigslist and UsedVending, this one in particular stood out for for its low miles, size and adorable little window on the side. It was in the process of being renovated to become a mobile clothing boutique so some things were already existing and built out.
There's more than you'd think that goes into the process of starting up a mobile boutique. Insurance can be tricky as most companies won't cover stores on wheels (we found one though!) It needed a lot of maintenance under the hood as well as new headlights & taillights.
I had to drive it to the BMV to get it checked out and registered in the state of Ohio. Storing it was another factor as our HOA will not let me keep it at home; although I wouldn't want to anyway.
We needed to take a LOT of measurements to finish the design of the interior before we could even start and then had to design the wrap for the exterior of the truck.
We also had to get all new tires, figure out the electrical component of things and lighting.
This is why it took 7 months from the time we brought the truck home in August 2018 to the grand opening party in April 2019.
I had always envisioned the truck being pink. It's my absolute favorite color! To get an idea of what it would look like compared to the mundane gray metal it came with, I took an existing photo and photoshopped it. It wasn't meant to be perfect, but gave me enough of an idea to confirm that yep, it's going to be pink for sure!
From there, John just started creating different wrap concepts. Below are a few of the final contenders out of the dozens upon dozens of designs.
And what we landed on as far as the exterior wrap with your help on social media!
The feedback was so incredibly helpful and because of it, we ended up merging the top two designs chosen by friends and customers and went with it.
Crux Roadboardz installed the wrap and they were just great!
This video of my dad driving the newly wrapped truck out into the world on Monday is definitely one of my favorite videos of all time.
Next steps were to measure the interior just a few more times to ensure we have everything just right. Isn't the saying measure 50 times, cut once? That's what we did regardless.
My envision for the inside was to make it feel as much like a boutique as possible while utilizing every bit of space.
I've brought the truck to many different career days at local schools as well as "touch-a-truck" events. Kids LOVE taking tours of the truck while learning about what went into turning this store on wheels what it is today. Usually I will give a little presentation too, showing them that they don’t always have to have a mainstream career and that anything is possible! I mean if you want to design & create jewelry and drive a pink truck around - go for it! I just make them aware that there's a lot of hard work that happens behind the scenes.
With the thousands of people that enjoy the experience of the mobile boutique every year, it makes all of the continuous work we put into it worth it!
These are just a handful of some of my favorite 'glamour shots' of the mobile boutique over the years 💕
